Story of Hokkiaido in Summer days
Sightseeing 2023.09.19(Tue)
Hello everyone,
This is Hotel Ten to Ten.
Today, we will introduce you to the Furano area, which is about a 2-hour drive from Sapporo.
Furano in the summer embodies the very essence of what you might imagine as Hokkaido’s summer. You can enjoy the vast blue sky, endless grasslands, and lavender fields, among other things.
When it comes to Furano, it's famous for its lavender fields. The reason why lavender is famous in Hokkaido is that it thrives better in the summer conditions of Hokkaido than in the hot and humid environments of other regions like mainland Japan. Lavender is not just for ornamental purposes; its flowers are harvested to produce aromatic extracts, soaps, and more. Additionally, lavender soft-serve ice cream, which can be enjoyed right next to the lavender fields, is also well-known
Speaking of which, we can't leave out the Blue Pond, which has now become synonymous with Hokkaido. On clear days, with the right angle of the sun and various other conditions coming together, the pond beautifully shines in shades of blue. This stunning location is in Biei, not too far from the lavender fields, making it possible to visit both on the same day. Not only Japanese tourists but also visitors from Asia have been increasingly frequenting this place in recent times.
My top recommendation is the Moegi-dai Observation Deck. You can get a close-up view of the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range, often referred to as the 'roof of Hokkaido.' You can also enjoy views of the Tokachi and Asahidake Mountains, and of course, the expansive landscapes of Furano and Biei. It's a place where you can truly experience the grandeur of Hokkaido's nature.
How about the Furano area?
It’s possible to explore it as an additional day of sightseeing during your visit to Sapporo, and it’s an area with plenty of gourmet options.
